November 2023 Parents Update

Winter Grading Starts Week of November 27th and 29th

Mid Term Testing and Gradings, are a way for me to see how the class is progressing and to give the children a goal to train for. Most students will be testing for “stripe” a halfway mark to the next belt level. Some will be grading to a new belt level. The grading will be conducted starting November 28th and 30th. The grading will take three weeks weeks to complete. Each child is tested as an individual with age, ability and experience as primary considerations. Attendance is important. Please make sure to attend the grading classes.

Belt and Certificate Presentations December  

We will be having a special class to present certificates and belts during regular class time Dec 18th  We invite all family and Friends to attend the presentation and cheer on our great martial artists as they move up to their next level. If you are unable to attend on Dec 18th we can present your child’s stripe or belt before the Christmas Party on Dec 20th. All Students are invited to attend both the belt presentation and the party.

Facing the Toughest Opponent

We will be discussing the idea of facing your toughest opponent, “yourself”. We will talk about the true challenge of martial arts is mastery over oneself. We will address the way emotions such as fear and anger have a negative effect on us and our abilities in self defence. We will identify the need for self confidence to counter the “I can’t do it” mentality that leads to failure and upset.

In October we talked about the nature of verbal attacks and mental defence to these. In November we will discuss stories of the Samurai and their incredible powers of concentration and learn ways to help strengthen our own concentration. I was very happy with the children's response to this information and was amazed at the quiet concentration that they were able to demonstrate.

This Month: The “STONE FACE” Challenge

The “stone face challenge.” is on.  Students are challenged to keep their composure during ever increasingly difficult challenges. It is a practice in concentration and patience and  a bunch of fun too. We are looking to find this years “ Stone Face Masters” you will earn your title when you can take on the rest of class all at once with out loosing your head.
